SUSPECTED ,SUICIDE. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A man named A. 11. Penny, traveller for Dull' and Co., soft good merchants, Christchureh, was found (lead in u bedroom of Somerset Hotel to-day. It appears lliat he got a cup of hot water from the kitchen, and engaged a room, :i nil nu hour later was found by one of the maids reclining on tins bud, quite dead. An empty phial was found in one of his pockets, and other indications all pointing to tho cas e being one of suicide.

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

[ Timaru, ast Night. | ill-. O'Meara, of the Stock Department, attempted to commit suicide at Temuka this afternoon. In passing a butcher s shop, he grabbed a knife from a sill, walked on a yard or two, and then gashed his throat in two or three places. Bystanders threw him down and took the knife from him, and rendered first aid. He was taken to a private hospital. His injuries, thoughl serious, are not expected to be fatal O'Meara, who is about to be transferred to Masterton, has licen very depressed during the last few days He was much liked at Temuka.
