vioiis year's, but was no doubt affected by tlie Mayoralty election. A splendid day's sport resulted, the Thompson Handicap being an exceptionally fine race. The sum of £11,404 passed through the machines, as against .€12,842 (which included the double machine) last year. Hurdle Race—Aoraugi 1, Repulse 2, Te Kainui 3. Also ran: Playmate. -Alorangi practically led from the start, and won very easily by six lengths, Te Kainui a poor third. Time, 3min 24 2-ascc. Waiwetu Handicap Toa Tuhi 1, Gazeley 2, Clancliattan 3. Also ran: Waipaku, Probability, All Guns, Kurawaka, and iloata. From a good start, Toa Tuhi and Clanchaltan were iu the front, but in the straight the latter gave place to Gazeley, but Toa Tuhi held his own to the finish, winning bv a length and a-quarter. All the final acceptors, except Cross Mattery, started. Gold Crest led for a couple of furlongs. Then Hca King took charge, and in the straight Sunbonnet joined issue, Gold Crest falling away.
