; WON BY DAVIES. 1 Per Press Association. ; Wellington, Jxi-.t Night. The chess championship was won bv 1 A. W. 0. Davies, of tile Wellington Working .Men's Club, the runner-up being A. K. Kelljng, of Wellington. Davies has lost but one game during th'j congress. ll t . i ri considered by competent players to 'have no equal in the Dominion for an attractive combination of dash and daring, lie won the championship at Oainaru in l!)0o, and also the prize for most rapid play at the Auckland congress of ItKIG. Davies is a native of Wales, and soon after arrival in New Zealand, some four ov five year,, ago, he created a sensation among players by lis rapid and dashing play. The brilliancy prize lias to be" adjudicated on later. The prizes were presented at a social gathering this evening.
