The fortnightly meeting of the Xe.iv Plymouth Borough Council was held hist evening. There were present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr. 15. Doekrilll, Messrs. Boon, Coleman, Collis. Moicv. In connection with the abattoirs contract several minor matters still remained tintinished. The noticeboard at tin- pound required painting ana relettering. Cr. Brown proposed, aud Cr. Morey set-uniled, that the engineer be requested to have the iron fence removed from between, the Town Hall and the Carnegie Library re-erected along the Ariki street frontage of the Carnegie Library rite. "1 lit- engineer was also authorised to have th e notice-board at the public |x>iind renovated. On the motion of Cr. Brown, th--Mayor seconding, it was decided, 'That upon the Iwrough solicitor reporting all papers in order and all costs paid, leave be given to Messrs. Webster Bros, to „uhlet part of the storehouse reserve to Mr. .1. W. Kiirta, who desired to open a billiard saloon." Cr. West moved that the eastern side of that portion of Liardet-strcet from Gilbert-Street to the llecrealion Grounds gate be kerbed aud channelled. The Mayor wa- opposed to the motion, expressing the opinion that the main street should be properly kerbed and channelled before work of that kind were undertaken on side streets. Cr. Morey moved an amendment that the Estimates Committee report on the matter, and the amendment was carried. MISCELLANEOUS. The reports of the Work.- Committee, Abattoir Committee, and Drainage Committee, as published, were adopted. \ ALEfJICTOUY. At the eouclu-ion of the busiue-- of the Borough Council meeting, His Worship the Mayor (Mr. 15. Doekrilll stated that a h th e meeting was the last at which iie would occupy the Mayoral chair, he would like to express h:s thanks to his colleagues and the ollicials of the Council !or the cordial manner in which they had as-isted him in his duties. There had lieeu times when the unanimity of the Council in their deliberations had lieon an useful as it was welcome. He was pleased to retire at a time when the finances of the borough were in a most sati-factory eonditinii. The clerk had given him very valuable a— i.-tanev. and the engineer had -liown that lie understood and carried out his dutiiv to the satisfaction of all the memliers. His Worship al-o thanked the electrical engineer for the able manner in which he had carried out hi- work. Although he was retiring from the position of Mayor, he had no idea < f altogether relinquishing public life,, iiml he was sure he would meet and confer with many of his colleagues in matters of public interest. Cr. Colli-, a- -enior councillor, thanked His Worship for his remarks. Personally he was sorrv that Mr. Doekrill had decided to give up ollire. The mo-t cordial relations had existed between the Mayor and councillors, and they Ind found His Wor-hip's knowledge of the affairs of the liornugh invaluable in di-enssions at the Council table, fie trusted that the harmonioii- relations would continue under the regime of the incoming Mayor. Councillors' Brown. Cattley. Morey. Boon. Coleman. West, and Mills reiterated the sentiments of Cr. Colli*. On behalf of the officials „f the Council the Town Clerk thanked the Mayor for his kindly remarks. At the invitation of His Worship the councillors and officials adjourned for refreshment". The health and future i welfare of Mr. Doekrill was warmly I honored.
