BRITISH LOSSES ON FRIDAY. NATIVE INFANTRY (CARRY A POSITION. ENEMY'S HEAVY LOSS. Calcutta, April 20. Following is the list of the casualties suffered by the British troops in Fridays' light:—Two Northumberland Fusiliers lulled; four British officers aim seventeen men wounded) live natives killed and thirty wounded. The Thirty-seventh Native Infantry carried a sangar at the point (A' ttas bayonet. . The First Warwick Regiment caugnt the enemy escaping through a gorge, and inllieted a loss of 400 men. Many suspect the Ameer of fomenting the frontier disturbances, owing to dissatisfaction over not having been consulted with respect to the AngloRussian agreement. 1 Viscount Morlcy, Secretary of State for India, has givfti the Indian Up* verunient a free hand, provided there is no permanent occupation.
ENEMY ABANDON POSITIONS. RELUCTANT AFGHAN REINFORCEMENTS. Received 28th, 9.25 p.m. Calcutta, April 27. The Mohmands abandoned their positions fronting Abazai and Shabkudor, and retreated. The Afghans are much troubled over their severe losses, but under the Mullahs' persuasion, small bodies continue to reinforce the Mohmands.
