DESTRUCTION IN SOUTHERN STATES. OVER 500 PEOPLE KILLED. New York, April 20. There has been a series of tornadoes in America. They swept the country from Dakota to the Gulf of Mexico. ' Tlie casualty lists show that 500 people have been killed and a thousand injured—mostly negroes. The principal damage was done in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. GREAT SNOWSTORMS IN ENGLAND. COMMUNICATION INTERRUPTED. London, April 20. A great snowstorm swept over England. Several inches of snow fell hi the southern counties. Great damage was done to fruit trecß. ° Railway communication has been stopped m some parts and telegraphs dislocated.
