Oi'F.RA .SINGER'S TRAGEDY. New York, .February 11. lime. Koy, the American operatic singer, who formerly appeared in grand opera under the name of Miss Gracia Calla, and who accuses her husband, M. Paul Roy, of murdering her brother, Mr George A. Carkins, at Ncwiugton, New Hatnpstead, on January 2, made a iurther statement to-day at her New Hampshire home. Mine. Roy denies the suggestion made by Colonel Henry Mapleson, the impressario, who is now in London, to the effect that Mr. Carkins was her husband, and not her brother.
"It is true that 1 purchased an estate at Ktretat from Colonel Mapletun," she says; "but when the deed was made out I asked him to be sure and insert my named its Lillian Carkins. 1 knew that I could not hold property under anything but my proper name. Culonel Maplcson must have confused the name with that of my brother Coorgc. for lleurgc was my brother. L'ulonel .Maple.on is a good friend of mine, lie gave me good advice, which I wish 1 had'followed.''
It is believed here that Mine. Koy realised that her marriage to M. Hoy was not valid in France, as the consent of M. Hoy's parents had not been secured, and "for this reason she .had to use her maiden, name in order to acquire a legal title to the property at I'.fretaf.
