The chief point at issue when I lie conference adjourned till Wednesday was whether members of the Institute of Marine Engineers should return to wo?K while allowing engineers engaged on coastal boats during the strike to complete the terms of their agreement with the companies, some of which, it is stated, had to run to twelve months. A ballot of the members of the Institute to-day decided to allow free engineers to complete their agreements. Subsequently a meeting of representatives of the coastal companies accepteu the provisional agreement. A nice ting of the unions affected ia now in progress. The latest report la that they have refused certain proposals in tile agreement. llie atrike remains unsettled.
