Whilst riding up one of our roads not far from here 1 noticed some ragwort which appeared to be thriving well. It behoves settlors to bo on the watch for this as it can easily be got rid of liefore it spreads too far. If it is once allowed to obtain a hold in this district it will be hard to eradicate it.

Miss O'Brien, who has been acting as relieving mistress at the local school since the New Year, has received an appointment iu New' Plymouth, ami leaves here on Tuesday next. On Thursday afternoon she was entertained by the elder girls at afternoon tea, thus showing the "entente cordiale'" that exists between teacher aud tin: scholars and also to the esteem iu which she is held. Miss Lewis has been appointed temporary relieving teacher pending the appointment of a permanent teacher. Ell'orts have for some time past been made by the local committee to have the school enlarged, bill so far very little headway has been made in this direction. There are now '.II children on the roll, with an average attendance | of about 82 per cent, and as the school consists of only one room, badly ventilated, in which two teachers have to teach 90 children, it can readily lie understood that additions are badly needed, unless the children's health is to I suffer. Mr, Sanderson, architect, was out List week, and his attention was drawn by Mr. T. P. llughson to the ur- , gent need for some alteration, so that it lis expected that something will soon be done in the matter.

Mrs. D'Arcy Penwarden has been appointed headmistress of the K-ahui road school, in place of Mr. Morgan, who is leaving the district. The Rahotu Football Club held a practice on Saturday, at which about 25 were present. Some fair form was shown. It is expected a good team will be placed in the field.
