THE AMERICAN FLEET.
ITS PROJECTED VISIT TO AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A good deal of interest is being taken locally hi the projected visit of the American Het-t to Auckland. From enquiries made by a representative of tlm Herald, it is quite apparent that a hearty reception awaits the ilect should the L'nited State., authorities decides -upon it calling here en route to Australia. The Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myei'B) | is prepared to call a meeting of citizens directly he receives intimation that tho visit is to be made.
Memliers of Parliament, interviewed, expressed the opinion that the Government would assist in making the reception and entertainment of the visitors worthy of the occasion, and that a reasonable grant for th e purpose would he supported by both sides of the House. According to the harbormaster (Captain Under), there is ample accoinmo- | dtlion in the harbor for the American
fleet if it visited this port. He said that the harbor could accommodate a much larger licet without interfering with the local shipping's between North Head and Birkeji<fead there were four nautical
