ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DROWNING FATALITY AT FIJI. Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A sad drowning fatality is reported from Tailevu (says the Fiji Times of I 21st March). . Mr. Lionel Coward, second son of Mr. W. Ix-veson Coward, was fixing up some small repairs on a cutter, and not answering to his sister's call, •he went to the river and found he lull disappeared. His hat was floating in the water, and some natives found his body in the middle of the river. Deceased was 27 years of age, and was a favorite with both the white and nativ c population. Being an epileptic subject, it is supposed Mr. Coward dropped into the river while suffering from a scizur*.
SHOCKING FATALITY. Christehureh, Last Sight. Sidney Cadle, a well-known stock auctioneer in the employ of Dalgcty and Co., met with a allocking accident tonight. He was crossing the tram rails in Cathedral Square when he slipped, mid the Opawa steam tram, which was then coming in, struck him, the engine passing over him. When the tram stopped, he was found lying face downwards between the engine and the trailer. The latter wa 3 uncoupled. It was then found Cadle had received terrible injuries, both legs being completely severed below the knee. He was quite unconscious at the time. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. Later. Cadle died about 11 o'clock.
' Ashburton, Tuesday. On Sunday evening an inmate of the Old lien's Home named William Deare, who had been ailing for some time, stabbed himself in the abdomen with a knife while he was in agony through pain. He was removed to the hospital, where he died last night. Deceased was 70 years of age.
