The Department of Industries and Commerce has received tlie following cable from the liigli Commissioner at London:— Frozen meat—The mutton market is firm. Stocks of New Zeaalnd mutton on hand are light, and small shipments are expected. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4%d for light weights and 3%d for heavy weights, othor than Canterbury 4'/jd for .ig'ai weights, J%d for heavy weights. There I s good demand for all lamb, and supplies are increasing. Canterbury brands are quoted at 5%d. other than Canterbury s'/ 2 d. The beef market is quiet but firm, and there is an increasing demand for the better grades. Hindquarters are quoted at 3%d, forcquarters 2%d. Butter —The market is quiet but steady. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. There is a good local demand, but no speculative demand. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at Ills, Danish 113s, Australian 108 a, and Argentine 108s. Cheese The market is steady, and there is better demand. White makes are quoted at 00s, colored 625. Hemp The market is quiet, but rather steadier. Heavy shipments are expected from Manila. Following arc. current quotations:—Good fair grade on the spot £24 10s, fair grade on the spot _£22, fair current Manila on the spot £24 10s. April to June shipments are quoted a- follows:—GoodJ fair grade £23 10s. fair grade £2l 10s, lair current Manila £23 ills.

Cocksfoot seed—The market is kept firm by a speculative demand. '1 hero are light stocks on hand., and it is reported that the cocksfoot -ecd harvest m New Zealand this season is light. There is no change in prices. Wool—The niarKct is rather duller.
