REPATRIATED KANAKAS.

Sydney, March 28. The Bishop of Melanesia, interviewed, stated that the idea that returned Kanakas would be killed in the islands had been proved erroneous. There were several who were afraid to return because thoy had been concerned in murders before going to Queensland, but, apart from these, those repatriated had been welcomed.

The compulsory return of the natives had proved the best thing for them. It had made one difference, however. They had an exaggerated idea of the value of their labor, and thought the land which they bought should realise the prices ruling in Queensland. It was impossible now to get men to work at the old prices.
