J NO-LICENSE IN INVERCARGILL. | Per Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The Mayor and one hundred leading business and professional men have signed a statement drawn up by His U orship With regard to the results of no-license here. The statement declares: (1) That no-license has no detrimental influence oil the value of property; (2) that public order in th e streets ha® greatly improved, persons under the influence of drink being seldom seen; (3) that the moral tone lias necessarily improved; (4) that in the best interests of growing youth they would not like licenses' restored; (5) that tho reform call be recommended to other places for a trial.
This statement has been made by tlw Mayor in reply to anonymous assertions regarding the above points made in various newspapers in the colony. The signatories who support the Mayor include well-known medical men and solicitors and leading evangelical ministers, most of the wholesale merchants, all the newspaper proprietors, many educational authorities, and a representative list of every branch of civil and commercial life.
MINISTERS OX TOUR. Christclmrch, Last Night. 1 h'e Hon. li. MeXab arrived at Chrietchurch from Cheviot last night, and left for the North. The Minister lias just completed a tour over the route of the South Island Main Trunk (Picton to Christchurch). He returns from Wellington next week, and goes rigut through to Gore 011 Saturday. Oil the following Monday, in company with t lie Premier, ho will commence it tour through Central Otago, starting from Queenstown.
LYTTELTON ATEMPTED MURDER CASE.
Christchurch, Saturday Night. Frederick Hall, on remand, appearsd at the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court this morning charged with having attempted to murder Alexander James Muir by shooting him with a revolver. On the application of the police, accused was further remanded for seven daytv
FACTORIES ACT INTERPRETATION
Wellington, Last Night. Ihe Employers' Federation has decided to bring a wise very shortly to tost the Labor Department's contention that the recent amendments to tire Factories Act mean that full weekly wagss must be paid to factory employees whether a full week's work lias been done or not. The Federation holds that this is incorrect, and that full wag.!* are only payable when full time is worked.
HOSPITAL SUNDAY. _ Napier, Last Night. The annual friendly societies' hospital demonstration, postponed from last Sunday, took place to-day in the Botanical ftardens. There was a verv large attendance of Napier and Hastings people, and a large amount was collected.
Invercargill, Last Night. Ihe results of yesterday's Hospital Saturday collections are said to constitute a record for the colony, the total (incomplete so far) being £IO3O 10s 8.1. of which the town collections totalled 1455 and the outlying districts L'.VU 11 s 3d.
