WELLINGTON HARBOR.

PROVIDING IMPROVED FACILITIES. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night, the Wellington Harbor Board to-day decided to obtain a report from its officers on the matter of providing impioved facilities lor mail (and therefore passenger) connection between railway trains and steamers trading between Wellington and Lytteltou. The Board was prompted in the matter by a letter liom the Postmaster-General asking w hat improved facilities would be given for the delivery of mails from vessels engaged in the ferry service.

A long discussion took place concerning improvements that are necessarv at the port in connection with the embark, ation and disembarkation of passengers travelling between the two islands, it was pointed out' that this matter had now become urgent and required attention. The chairman (Air, T. M. Wilford, UP.) stated that it might be found necessary to restrict one portion of the wharves entirely for tho use of ferry steamers. When the North Islanl Trunk line wiis completed considerable alteration would be made by the Railway Department 111 existing station arrangements. He suggested that it migiit be jxissible to devise a scheme whereby ferry steamers would always be berthed at one of the new wharves to be erected near Pipilea Point, thus allowing arrangements to be made for running railway trains and city tramcars directly alongside the steamers 011 their arrival and immediately prior to their departure.

sion that the Board's engineer had on many occasions prior to the development the Board's wharfage scheme now being carried out waited on the Government and asked for. information as to tlio intentions of the Railway Department with regard to improvements which it was obvious would have to be nuule sooner or later, but the engineer could not get any satisfaction from the Government on this question, and the wharfage scheme had to proceed without regard to the requirements of the Department.
