PROVINCIAL NEWS.
KAUOTL". (From Our Own Correspondent). A mau named Dunald McDonald, employed on the Wiienui road work--, had a very trjitig experience on Friday night. Ue was walking up the KaUui road on hi- way to camp, when he fell and broke his leg. lie was unable to make anyone hear, and was compelled to remain out in th e rain all night. Fortunately the night, though wet, was fairly mild, or the exposure would have killed him. U the morning he was noticed by Mr. The-. Clark and taken down to Mr. Fh uing, who at once brought him into 1 iliotn, where he was made i In the absence of a do.- ■ Kelly promptly rendered i. ,et llio leg, and lat.-r in the u,.,. -ultercr was sent in to the New Th mouth hospital. The Kahotu Domain Board was to have met on Tuesday, bnt owing to the wet weather the meeting lapsed. It is some time now since that progressive body held a meeting. At its next meeting a deputation from the Spors Club and Football Club will wait on it with a view to assist in improving the local sports ground. With a little expenditure the local ground could be made second to none in Taranaki.
Subscription lists are being circulated and are being well filled for the purpose of obtaining a "suitable waggon, harness and mattress'' for use as an ambulance for Rahotu and district. When there is an accident or a case of sickness necessitating removal to a hospital no difficulty is experienced in obtaining horses as every settler who has one is willing to lend it, but it is difficult to obtain a suitable conveyance, and much valuable time is often wasted in looking for one. The intention is to purchase a waggon, wltich will be kept solely for ambulance purposes. Rahotu is rapidly progressing, and one liability to accident increases with the number of men employed, so that unfortunately the need for such a conveyance is often felt. There is an ambulance waggon in Opunake, to which Rahotu people subscribed, but that is too far away for immediate use.
Mr. T. Parsons has purchased a motor cycle. This is the first one to be owned out this way. No doubt others will go in for them when they see the advantage to be gained by rapid transit. Messrs Turner and Beadle, contractors for the erection of the factory manager's residence, have made a start with the work.
There is a good sprinkle of snow on the mountain, and climbing is now about over for tie season, except to the adventurous. A small party from Eahotu is at present spending a week at the Kahui road house, exploring the beauty spots in the locality. Mrs. Robinson has just returned from a holiday trip of six weeks in the South Island.
