NEW ZEALAND TEAM'S WELCOME. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night The athletes who so worthily represented this Dominion at the important sports gatherings in Tasmania and Australia recently, were tendered a formal welcome home, this afternoon by the Wellington centre of the Neiv Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Congratulatory s])eeches were delivered by the Hon. T. W. llislop (Mayor of Welling ton), who presided, and by the Hon. C. Fowlds and Messrs. T. M. Wilford, C. H. Izard, and F. M. B. Fisher, M.'sP. MiGreen, manager of the team, in acknowledging the expression- of pleasure at tile success of the team, suggested that Kerr and Murray should be sent to represent New Zealand at the Olympian Games in London next July. Perhaps the Government might help. Mr. Wilford promised to do his best to obtain a grant for tbe purpose. MrFisher said he would not pledge himself to ask the Government for money for sport. He thought the necessary money could and should be obtained privately.

SECEDING FROM THE ATHLETIC UNION, lnvercargill, Last Night. At a meeting of directors of the Southland Caledonian Society it was decided to secede from the New Zealand Athletic Union. The motion was carried almost unanimously. Nineteen members out of a directorate of twentylive were present, and two only opposed the motion. One of these is the chairman of the Southland Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union, and the other is a delegate from a county Co'.edonian society. The society has bean prompted to take this action by the union's decision in respect to the society's action in allowing a disqualified competitor to compete in the juvenile dancing event.
