RUA THE PROPHET.
INTERVIEWED BY THE PREMIER. TWO GOVERNMENTS NOT - TOLERATED. Per Press Association. Rotorua, Last Night. The Prim# Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, had »n important interview yesterday •t Whitangi, Whakatane, with the notorious Maori chief Rua, who has caused the Government considerable trouble by Us influence against reform in the Urejrero district. Rua, it is understood, is ■ot going to persist in his attempt to Uoek ills efforts to better the conditions of the natives any longer. &r Joseph Ward told Boa's followers there could not be two Governments in the country, and that Rua's request to have all the natives placed on the electoral roll could not be acceded to, as the Maoris already had representatives and could not be represented in parliament by both Europeans and Maori*.
Sir Joseph Ward returned to Auckland by the express train to-day. A conference! will take plice on Wednesday between Kua and other native chief 9 of the Urewera district and the Minister for Native Affairs respecting the settlement of mining rights in the Urcwer* county.
