THE OPIUM TRAFFIC
DEALING WITH THE EVIL. AX EXPERIMENTAL MOVE. Received March '23, 9.28 p.m. Peking, March 23. The announcement is made in Peking that Great Britain lias agreed to an experimental decrease of the importation of opium for a period of three years ti see whothcr the cultivation of poppy and the number of opium-smokers would he lessened and the importation ill that case decreased annually. A decree has been issued in Peking ordering further measures to deal with the evil.
