STRIKES IN AUSTRALIA.

THE COLLIERY TROUBLE. CONCILIATION BOAKJ) ABORTIVE. Sydney, March 21. ' When lliij Newcastle Speciai Cuali miuiiig Court re-assembled, the President announced that the Court could no longer put up with the present position. He lutd waited three days for the Pelawmain and liurwood pits to resume work, without result. He commented strongly on the attitude of the Minora' Federation. Either it could not or it would not enforce discipline among its members. It seemed to be an organisation which was left at the mercy of its least responsible members. The way the Federation acted at the bidding of boy | employees resembled that of a general who in the middle of a battle had to go to his drummer boy and ask him not to upset his plans. Tho flouting of the Court was an affront to its self-respect. He could not stand it any longer. He closed the Court, but said he would not send in his resignation immediately, but would give the parties time to consider the position. The closing of the Court is regretted by both sides. It is feared it will lea to a renewal of complications. SOUTH BULLI TROUBLE SETTLED. Sydney, March 21. The troubles at the South Bulli Company's mines have been amicably settled. THE WHAKF STRIKE. Sydney, March 21. The conference between the Whar ■ Laborers' Union and the three coasta shipping companies against whom th< strike has been organised will be con ■ tinned to-day. The prospect of a settle • meat being arrived at is regarded a hopeful. Received 23rd, 12.45 a.m. Sydney, March 22. The, strike conference has adjournc till Monday, when there is reason t hope that a settlement will be reached.
