A deputation of trawl-owners met the Minister of Marine to-day to ask that arrangements be made whereby the carriage of lish to Wellington might be expedited so that the lish might arrive in the best of condition, and so prevent the present Joss occasioned by the slow method of transit. The Minister promised to give consideration to the wishes of tlie deputation. Another deputation asked that the men in charge of ligliters working in the bay only might lie exempt from the regulations compelling them to possess home trade certificates. The Minister promised to consider tihe matter, as it affected lighters trading only in the liay. SAPIER CARNIVAL. Napier, Last Night. A race for patikis in connection with (he carnival regatta was got off Ihisi afternoou. The Meteor, when leading, had her throat halyard block carried away, which put her out of first place. Tho Maroondah (C. F. McDonald), lmin allowance, won, with the Edith, (imin, second on time, and Sunray (W. H. Stevens), hnin, third, though the Meteor was only just behind her.

The matron of the Auckland Industrial School stated thftt incorrigible girls in that institution were sent to Orauga, and gave instances of the change in a number of girls she was acquainted with who had been inmates ol the home. Corrective discipline was necessary, but personally she disliked inflicting corporal punishment, and would like to see a classification system ad,optted. The matron of the Caversham Industrial School stated that she would only adopt corporal punishment as a last resource. The Rev. A.meeting of the Clerical Association discussed Socialism, and passed a resolution sympathising with the aspirations of Socialists to improve the conditions of wage-earners, especially in the older countries, and while unable to accept the views of extremists, in the opinion of the Church, attention should be given to projwsals for the removal of existing social conditions.
