TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The annual report of the Society records 11 fairly satisfactory year's, operations. Ilnd the weather been good for the annual show there would have been a far better result. The exhibits in point of number were well up to last year's, but in quality the animals penr ned in all elasses showed far in ad vanee of anything yet seen in the Society's yards. Owing to the heavy loss financially entailed at the animal show through wel weather, the committee decided to hold a supplementary show for horses in January, and that resulted in a profit of £45. The Society's best thanks were due to those exhibitors who generously donated their prizemoney, won at the annual show, to the Society. The amount so donated totalled over.CSO. The Society's best thanks were also due to those who generously donated special prizes for the Society's two fixtures. There was not any great expenditure on yards, etc., the expenditure during the previous several years having given o >'cellent accommodation for a Large number of exhibits. Meetings during the winter months were held at Egmont Village, Warea, and Uremii. and the Society had to (hank Captain Young for his valuable services in connection therewith. A lecture by Mr. .1. A. r.ilrnth on the second day of the show was largely attended, and thank* were due to him. The committpp su""ested the Society's freehold, St. Ilermaiu's Square, which were not suit, able for showgrounds, should be leased as building sites, but legislation, would be necessary to extend the Society's powers of leasing. At present the rental derived was but a nominal one, for grazing purposes. The membership continued steadily to increase, and, iv was desirable in the interests of the Socielv that all members should make a strong oft'ort to still further increase the list. The report also records the thanks of the Society to the Taranaki ■lockey Club for their liberal treatment in granting free access to practically the whole of their grounds, grandstat. etc.. for llio fixtures in November ami lamiavv hist.
