Sir,—The thanks of the community are due to Mr. Jennings and yourself for the plucky stand on the above subject, which, to a certain extent, is producing good fruit. <k> on Mr. Jennings, we admire yon for the stand yon are taking up! Let ii- have fair charges and fair plav. I once had business do with the I School Commissioners, and took up two quarter-acre sections in Xew Plymouth at a certain rental for a term of years. Shortly afterwards I received intimation; from the lawyers that I was required to take out a lease. On enquiring the cost. I found that it exceeded by some few pounds the aggregate total of rent for the term. Needless to sar, no business was done. Some time since I bought a farm, and before T could take possession. I found that the Government and lawyers' fees totalled up to .lU.nt the fir-t year's profit, and equaling iitmut 2* per acre.
