GOVERNMENT'S SCOTTISH LAND
BILL.
London, March 12.
In the House of Lords Lord Montrose graved an amendment in favor of the rejection of the Government's Scottish pm.ll Holdings Bill and the substitution of a resolution against the crofterising of the whole of Scotland and the establishment of a land court to deal with the matter. These changes, the resolution stated, did not enjoy the approval of the agricultural interests affected. In the House of Lords Lord Chancellor Loreburn promised that, If the House .would go into committee on the Scottish ikm.ll Landholders' Bill, the Government would meet all amendments in a most conciliatory spirit. Lord Bosebery, who supported Lord Hmtrose in the House, wrote to the Time* laying that deeds were more significant than words. After considering the House of Lords' objections for seven months, the Government had returned the Bill unaltered, although all the Scottish agricultural authorities had upheld Use Lords.

Fourteen years is the time fixed by Ihe Bill to p*M before local option is introduced. For all hotels closed within this time full eompensalion will be paid, but after fourteen yews, it i» proposed, is to be paid for buildings only, not for lot* of licenses.
