INTERESTING DAIRY STATISTICS.
A supplement to the New Zealand Trade Review gives a list of the butter an.l cheese factories in the Dominion, and their output for the year IJJOO-7. The number of butter "factories was 210, and connected with the*- 455 skimming stations or creameries.
'I ho cheese factories numbered 107 (U of them new).
The output of butter was 23.5(jS tons, and of cheese, 10,118!) tons. Taranaki leads in butter with 78 factories and 7!) creameries, and an output "f 7,408 tons, and also in cheese, with an output of 3.-201 tons from 22 factories. Wellington comes next in butter output with 5,591 tons from 34 factories; and Auckland third with 3,1!15 toils from 51 factories.
Olago-Southland is second in cheese with 3,187 tons from 3(i factories: WeiImgton being third with 2,330 tons from 27 liic-torie.-.
The largest butter-maker in the list is the Taieri & Peninsula Companv, of Olago, with two factories and 53 creameries, making 1,815 (ous: the- next, the. New Zealand Dairy Association (Auckland), making 1,803 tons at two factories with 4(i creameries.
In Auckland the creameries a vera "c about two per factory, in Taranaki onlv one. in Wellington about four; two of ihe seven Canterbury factories have 35 of the 42 creameries in the district (CanIcrbury Central 21, South Canterlmrv I4i.
Tim majority of the Taranaki butter factories have no outside skimming stations. The busiest cheese faetorv was Riverdale (Taranaki), IiTO tons'; and Eden. -I,ile (l)tago), 487 tons, comes next.
