ATTEMPT TO KILL KING ALFONSO.
BOMB PREMATURELY EXPLODES. Received ilarch 12, !),37 p.ui. Madrid, March 12. Before daybreak yesterday, bombs exploded on the outer quay a"t Barcelona. The damage was slight. The matter was concealed until to-night. King Alfonso visited the Austrian suuadron. He was entertained to luncheon aboard the flagship. Subs-.'- \ quently he was repeatedly ovatioued in i workmen's and other quarters of the I sity. . He leturned to Madrid in the evening, i A POWERFUL. EXPLOSIVE. A PROVIDENTIAL ESCAPE. Received March 12, U. 51 p.m. Madrid, March 12. The bomb was loaded with a powerful explosive and filled with pieces OT iron, and placed in a sewer under the landing stage whence Alfonso intended f> start his visit to the Austrian squadron. The explosion evidently was prenuture. Everyone who heard it attributed it to the tiring of a gun on a warship. Had a crowd been on the stage many would have been killed. Two arrests have been made.
