STRATFORD-ONGARUE LINE.

Okey, M.r. was read at Monday's meeting of the Stratford Borough' Council: —"As it is anticipated that the Main runk railway between Wellington and Auckland will lie completed shortly, there is every indication that extra pressure will be brought to bear upon the Government by the diU'erent members lo carry on the lines in their electorates at a far greater speed. 1 would suggest that some cllort should be made lo bring before the Executive the position of ihe iStratlord-Ongarue line, with a view of urging upon them the necessity of carrying on tltis work at a far greater speed tnan what has been done in the past. As the borough of New l'lymouth is greatly interested in the progress of this work, in order to assist \our member ; might 1 lie allowed to suggest that your Council .ask the Neiv Plymouth Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce, and any other local bodies that are interested in this work to appoint delegates to visit the line, so as to make themselves acijr.ainted with the progress being made; and also with a view of making a united effort during, the coming session of bringing before the Government- the importance of this line! Jf your Council should fall in with this suggestion, 1 will be pleased to assist in any way that 1 can be of service to you. and I have no doubt your ineiiilier. Mr. Syiues, will lie pleased to make all arrangements for visiting the line.' His Worship the Mayor moved: "llial .Ml'. Okey Ik 4 thanked for his communication of February 20. and that the Stratford and Whangamomona C ounty Councils, the -New I'ly ' mouth Borough Council, Taranaki County Council, the New Plymouth Harbor Board, the New l'lymouth Chamber of Commerce be written to and asked ki wait upon tlie I'ight. Hon. the Premier during his forthcoming visit to Stratford. and to urge upon him the necessity of pushing on tlie Nlral ford-Onga-due and Mt. Kgmont lines with all possible despatch, especially upon tiie completion of the Main Trunk line." Til.' motion was seconded by Cr. Kirkwood, and both mover and seconder spoke | strongly in favor of having the lines mentioned and pushed on more expeditiously.—Post.
