The president refused an application for an adjoiinrnient till Monday in order that the full vote of the miners' lodges on the iiuestion of taking evidence iu camera might he known. Ho said from the present returns it wa* apparent that the lodges would carry the vote against camera evidence. He lmd fully made up his mind not to give way. If wit-l nesses asked leave to have evidence taken in camera, it would be done. Any attempt to dictate to the Court would fail miserably. He wits afraid the men were going altogether out of their province, and he was determined that the tribunal should not suffer humiliation or indignity. He recognised the situation wn)i very serious and might result in the cessation of the labors of the Court. He adjourned tho Court till to-morrow, and meantime the president draws up a statement of the position, including the appeal of the miners, sliowing their position is untenable.
SEAMEN'S WAGES. l'er Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. A conference between shipowners and representatives of the Seamen's Union coininened to-day. The. men demand an increase of ten shillings per month all round, also an increase of sixpence an hour on the overtime rate. All the companies under the Arbitration award are represented at the conference. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minjster for Labor, will attend the meeting to-morrow.
BLACKBALL MIXERS' STRIKE. Rocfton, Wednesday. The Trades and Labor Council met last evening and discussed the question of n general strike. A large majority of the Council objected to the idea of a general strike. Orcymonth, Wednesday. The Blackball deadlock continues. Mr Lnmao, of the Labor Department, Is communicating with the MinTsfer of Labor.
