While the playing left little to lie desired, the programme could scarcely lie said lo ollVr a qniil pro ipto for the admission money. The non-critical and non-expert audience was surprised, on hearing the judge's verdict, that the Woolston trio only got into third position. The competition resulted: Wanganui. 74 points I Auckland Ist Battalion, V.i points .. 2 Woolstoii, 71 points ;| Mornington (71) points). Taranaki (till points), and Masterton ((i(i points) also competed.
GARDEN PARTY TO-DAY. To-day the postponed garden parly will be held in the Recreation Sports Ground. There should be no need to urge people to attend. They have already had a taste of the quality of the bands competing, and are not likely to miss this chance of hearing them treat elections of their own choice. We fully expect a big gathering of the public to-day. The bandsmen will be eutefI tiiined by the ladies' committee. I This morning a huge entry of E-Ilat liarn soloists must be got through. TO-NIGHT.
