The New York correspondent of the Times states tli.it resident Roosevelt has again stirred the country by means of a letter requesting the interstate Commerce (Commission to investhnue jj. hoi: conditions nll'ecling railway employees and tile possible reduction of their wages.
Some interpret this as an attempt to secure for ill. T.il'l, a candidate for the J'residency, labor votes. Others believe it to be a wise mode, of preventing strikes.
It is apparent that the railways are facing conditions wherein they must either reduce the nuinher of employees or cut down their wages.
