ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

As the mail train from .New Plymouth this morning was about ten chains from the railway platform, a iircman named Geo. Shute was coupling up two engines for the express. He got clear of the engine, and on to the back of the approaching express. Seeing his position, he did his best to get clear, although the driver (A. J. Hodge) on the express applied all 'the power possible to stop his train. iShute was struck by the express engine and received a severe scalp wound and other minor injuries. He was unconscious for a time, but regain-1 cd consciousness before his removal to I the hospital. lie is now progressing favorably. Shutc hails from Master-M ton.
When the street was crowded yostef-i day afternoon with people to sec the. liamls arriving and cabs were rushing, through the streets, a little boy ran into Devon street and was knocked down by u cab and run over. Dr. Walker attended to the little sufferer.
