ARBITRATION COURT.
~' Invereargill, Last Night. The. Arbitration Court heard legal argument, and reserved decision to-day in the compensation case re Walter Rouse, who .was injured in the New Zealand Loan Co.'s stores at Blttlf -and died. Dunediii, Last Night. Tlie Arbitration Court lias delivered the awjard in the general laborers' and chcmitjal workers' disputes. In the former dispute the Court has decided that all laborers engaged at pick and shovel work, other than those working in connection with building operations, shall be paid not less than Is per hour, laborers employed on any other unskilled labor shall be paid not less than 10"/, d per hour. Sanitary work and street cleaning and the clearing of channels (but not ditches) not involving work of construction is not within the award. In case any question arises as to whether the work of the employee is or is not within this exemption it shall be decided by 11101 chairman of the Conciliation Board. In the chemical manure workers' dispute, tbe Court lias awarded 4(1 hours a- week and a wage of not less than llfod per hour; overtime, rate and a-quarter for the first three hours, and time and! a-lialf thereafter, and double time on Sundays, Good Friday, and Christma-s! Day.' Youths may be employed at the following rate:—First year tl._ secoad £1 IfrS, and thereafter' file minimum prescribed by the award.
