The Council further considers that it would not only be an injustice to workers of the Dominion, but an injustice to immigrants who would have to compete with our fellow workers, thereby reducing wages and prejudicing the national condition.

Ti.MBl-1; CUTTING RIGHTS. Wanganui, Last Night. The Aotea Land Board was occupied, nil day in hearing an application by Gammon and Co. for ' timber-cutting rights over blocks situated between Raetihi and Ohakune. Mr. Slcerrett appeared in support of the application, which was objected to by Messrs. C. Bi Morrison and Borla.se. wiio appeared for Proud and Abbott, who had obtained consent to lease a portion of the land affected. Briefly put, the circumstances are as follows:—In 1902 the natives negotiated with ihe Jtotea Land Board to vest tlie Uaetilii lands in the Board to deal with as the natives' agents. About this time Gammon and Co. were also in with the natives for timber-cut-ting rights, and made certain proposals which was accepted by the natives, certain of these natives also having signed agreements to vest these lands in the Board. Subsequently Proud and Abbott came along and obtained a provisional consent to a lease which has not yet been confirmed or sealed by the Board. Hence to-day's proceedings.' The matter will continue to-morrow.
