GROSS CRUELTY TO HORSES.
CHARGE AGAINST AX OKATO DRIVER. KKMANDKD FOR SIOTEXCI']. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Mr. H. S. Fit/.herbcrt. P-M., Stanley Woolridge was charged with having on February 17th entellv ill-treated a team of four horses by driving them in a waggon while they were suffering from sore shoulders, and were totally unfit to be used. It appears that as the outcome of information received Constables McTvor and Rowlands stopped the accused on his way to town on Monday morning and examined the horses. Thev were found to lie in a very bad state. The. -boulders of four out of the five horses in the team were marked with protruding sores, and the collars and sacking under them were besmeared with blood 1 and other matter as a result of constant rubbing. The police arrested the driver I (Stanley Woolridge) and placed the I horses in a livery stable.
The accused pleaded guilty, and senfence was deferred, he being remanded to appear on Monday next. 24th hist., when his father |"\V. 11. Wnnlridgc. of Okato). who owns the horses, will be subpnened to appear. The linrs.ii were examined by tjlip Court and ordered lo be tinned into a naddock until they had recovered.
