MOA ROAD BOARD.
At the monthly meeting of the Moa Road Hoard lioU on Saturday there were present: -.Messrs Trimble (chairman). Ilobv. Capper, Lawrence, Clnti'd, folkill. ami .Marsh. Foreman lloskin reported that -Mr. RichanUon had liui.-hed his contracts and had carted ■>" yards ol stone snb-■si-ribed for by the -clller.-. on the liugby road. The Hoard agreed to pay for tile breaking of liic si,,lie. an.l also to purchase 2it yards of liietal, broken by Mr. Butler, on the Suffolk road, at lis per yard.
In his report the foreman drew the Hoard's attention to the amount of loose'metal lying on the loads. It was decided that the loose stones be raked oil', as they were at present lilling up I he gutters. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote that the proposals of the Hoard for expenditure of thirds accrued to 23th September, IIHI7, had lieen approved by the Land Uoard and the report of the ranger found favorable. A voucher for Cl 4 4s 2d had been passed for payment to the Board, and had been placed lo their credit at the Bank of New Zealand, Inglewood. The amount comprised thirds accrued lo 2Sth September. 11)07. on t rowii lands under the administration of tin- Hoard. 'The Land Board had sanctioned expenditure of the payment in terms of a scheme already submitted. The Treasury advised thai C 1 -400, being the first payment of the C3OOO loan for the deviation of Lincoln road and forming and metalling the Richmond, York, Wortlev, and l)avis roads, would be paid in to the Board's credit in the course of a few days.
Till engineers (Messrs. Orbcll and Maekav) reported that the formation and metalling on Johns road was proceeding very satisfactorily, and the work would be finished in three weeks' time. The contractors on the Lincoln road had finished the greater part of their work, and should have started metalling last week, but owing to the crusher being engaged on other work they would not start for another week. Mr. Kendrick asked that 100 yards of metal be placed on Johns road. The chairman, with the engineer, was authorised to ascertain whether the funds on Johns road would permit the , Board getting a supply of crushed metal for the maintenance asked for.
It was decided to let the question of I he tunnel on the Motukawa road stand over until the April meeting, when tenders will be called for same. The clerk was instructed to write to Mjr. Boyd calling his attention to the cattle straying on the Surrey road. The foremen's wages were increased to !)s a day until the end of next June. Foreman Hoskin was granted 10s a day while working on the Bedford road tunnel. Accounts amounting to £7OB 15s 2d were passed for payment.
