Per Press Association. I Wellington, Last Aight. the annual session of the Council of the J'etv Zealand Congregational Union was brought to a close to-day. The Council elected officers for the comiii" year as tolluws:—Chairman, Rev. W. :?. Ferine; secretary, Rev. u. Day; treasurer, Mr. \V. 11. Lyon; registrar, Mr. lirauville Hunt; auditors. Mr. C. Campbell and Rev. A. F. Hunt; "Outlook" editor, .Mr. A. Ileaghway. The Rev. R. McNaughtoti asked if anything had.been done by the committee set up last year to go into the question of theological training for young men who had expressed a desire lo enter thc ministry ol tne Congregational Church. The Her ti. lleighway stated (hat the committee had never met during the year, and could not therefore table a report, ft was agreed that the committee be reappointed, with the llcv. C. Heighway a-, convenor, to report next year. The Ivev. A. K Hunt (Timaru) moved, I hat this Council desires lo place on record its gratification at the promise oi temperance reform throughout the world, and especially at the great success which has attended the carrying ot no-license in some parts of this' Dominion, and m view ot the forthcoming no-license poll this Council urges upon our ministers and churches the necessity of putting forth every effort to bring about as speedily as possible the abolition of a traffic which is one of the greatest obstacles to our social and religious life." Reed Giasson were constituted a committee to wat»h tne progress of laws affecting religious liberty m New Zealand. Thc following were appointed to attend the forthcoming International Conference ,-f the. Congregational Church at Edin-biirgln-Revs-. .1. Wilkhis and W. Saunder Messrs. A. Lindsay, Spragg, and Cutteridge.
