His provincial re--3 cords were 303 miles 1510 yards in 72 - hours, the twelve hours' day record in J'.ngland, and the record of 100 miles in ' IS hours in Dunedin. ' p ,* k ; m y Alexander McGregor, formerly Chief Inspector of Machinery, died at vu>i tngton on Sunday evening, aetat 70. He bad been ailing for some time, and last week underwent an operation. Archdeacon Cole left by the Rarawa Mr Auckland last evening. He was accompanied by Mrs. Cole. We understand that Mr. Alec Hill, of Aw Plymouth, has been appointed to the charge of the Timaru branch of the Ocean Accident Company, and will leave at an early date to take up his new duties. Mr. Hill lias been identified with many interests in New Plymouth, and we express no mere, platitude when we say that he will be m'oally missed by a wide circle of friends" The Hon. J. MeGowan, Minister for Justice, arrived by the mail train last night, and to-day inspects the New Plymouth gaol, with particular regard to the portion being set aside for the ,re- • ception of indeterminate sentence prisoners.
His Worship the Mayor and Councillors Collis and Boon have been elected the Xew Plymouth Borough Council's representatives on the New Plymouth Fire Board. Mr. Oscar Freyberg, of Wellington, has joined the legal staff nf Mr. J B. Roy. Mr. Freyberg should he an acquisition to local swimming circles, he having been prominently connected ' with sport and yachting in Wellington.
