MORMONS MOBBED. Per Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Late last night a disturbance took place in the city, due to a crowd of people taking offence at some remarks made by an open-air lecturer ,alleged to be 'a Mormon. The speaker and his atwoci; ates were set upon and chased through a number of streets by the crowd, but were eventually rescued by the police. , SEAMEN'S WAGES. Dunedin, Saturday. The Star predicts tlnvt at the conference between the delegates of the Seamen's Union and New Zealand shipowners, to be held in Wellington this month, satisfactory arrangements will be arrived at whereby an advance in the men's wagos will be granted. CATHOLIC CLERGY TRANSFERS. Wellington, Last Night. The transfer of a considerable number of Catholic clergy has been decided upon. The Ven. Archdeacon Devoy, for many years Vicar-General and associated with St. Mary of the Angels parish] will, with Father Herring, of Buckle street, take charge of the Newtown parish. Father Ainsworthj who hag been parish priest of Newtown for some five or six year,s, has been transferred to Hokitika. Father Maloney, who only recently replaced Father Holley (now of Blenheim) as acting administrator of the Thorndon parish, has been appointed to St. Mary of the Angels, Wellington. Father Hickson has l>epn appointed administrator of Thorndon parish. Other transfers have been made as lows:—Father Venning (Buckle street)' to Boulcott street; Father S. Mahoeny (Leeston) to Buckle street; Father Finnerty (Timaru) to Buckle street; Father Hills (St. Patrick's College) to Leeston; Father James Goggan (Temuka) to Napier; Father A. McDonald l (Boulcott street) to Timaru; Father Cahill (Carterton) to DarmevirKc; Fa-< tlier Bowe (Palmerston North) to CarJ terton; Father D. O'Shea (Dannevirke) to Ilawera; Father Kimbell, of St. Mary of the Angels, will take up special work in flie dioeeso.
