ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association, Dunedin, Last Night. A cluid named Albert John Ryan, aged 11 mouths, wliObe parents reside in Harbor Terrace, died somewhat suddenly this morning, Death is supposed t.o be due to bronchitis. The child was unwell yesterday, bnt tlie parents did not conj sidcr the illness sufficiently serious to necessitate medical <nid. Pahiatua, Saturday. Frederick Greaves, a ten-year-old son of Mr. Greaves, of Mangatainoka, met death under sad circumstances. He had ridden a horse into the river near the bridge and- observing a shining substance in the water picked it up and placed it in his blouse and rode oil'. The .substance proved, to be a lump of phosphorous, which, on being exposed io the air, instantly ignited the boy's clothes, whieh were soon a mass o§ flames. The fire was extinguished by a constable, but the lad had boeu burned from neck to knees. He was in intense agony, and died at 2 o'clock this morn-' ing.
