The agreement, under which the present English team tours Australia, securer to the Alarylebone Club at least ,£iO,VUU gate money. The Board of Control assumed the responsibility, and, in turn, passed it 011 to tile associations controlling cricket in New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. With the end of the tour now in sight, ii appears tolerably certain that the associations will have to make up anything between £ISOO and £2500.
Up to the conclusion of the Tasmanian tour, the English team had received £5389. The two tests and the match against New South Wales and South Australia will have to find the balance, i and it is likely the total will fall far I short of this amount. If the Englishi men win the fourth test, the shortage ! will be about £1500; if they lose it, i the fifth match will be no draw, and the [ loss will be near £2500. THE NEXT TEST HATCH. TILE TRIANGULAR CONTEST. Received sth, 11.22 p.m. London, February 5. The Marylebone committee have adopted the new rule of cricket cabled 011 the 29th. It was enforced from yesterdav.
The coramiitee resolved to take steps to prepare a scheme for a triangular contest in IfK)!). It referred the matter oi making arrangements to the cricket sub-committee, who will co-operate with Australia and the South African representatives, and when the scheme is prewired the counties will be invited to express opinions and make suggestions. The advistory committee of Ihe Engi lish Counties Association resolved to prohibit the practice of a player representing two clubs in one veir by altering Rule 1 of the County Cricket Rules to read* as follows: —'"A cricketer may not play for more than one county within the calendar year. The penalty for an infringement of this rule will be disqualification for two years. A British colony, dependency, or State shall be regarded as a county." The Marylebone Club has now confirmed the rule.
