At a conference, of delegates from the Chemical Manure Workers', Shearers', Mustcrers', and Milton Farm Laborers' Unions to-day, ,C 25 was guaranteed !| s a nucleus of a fund to bring about amalJ gamation of the whole of the Otago and Southland Agricultural and Farm Laborers' Unions and kindred unions into one _ federation, with the object of obtaining political representation so as to secure administration of labor laws as they stand on the Statute Book. IMMIGRANTS. Auckland, Last Night. The passengers by the Takapunu, which arrived at Onehunga to-day, included some 70 immigrants, ex the Corintiiic from London. THE AMOKURA. Wellington, Last Night. New Zealand's training ship, the Ainokura, proceeded on her third cruise this morning. This time the gunboat visits northern waters, and she is now bound for Auckland. The itinerary reaches as far north as Mongonni, with calls at the various hnrbors en route. The Amokura will afterwards come southwards to Napier, fitting in sier call there with the Napier carnival. Another trip will then be made to Auckland, and the vessel will manoeuvre in the Hanraki Gulf. She is not expected back in Wellington until after Easter.
NEW ZKALAND INSURANCE COY. Auckland, Last Night. Tlie report and balance-sheet of the New Zealand Insurance Coy., Ltd., for the year ending November 30 last, show that the year's operations have resulted in a surplus of £91,410. Out of this sum the directors recommend the payment of a dividend of 2a per share, making 10 per cent, for the year; £OO,OOO to be placed to the reserve, and a balance of £21,074 to be carried forward. The net income derived from premiums, interest and rents amounted to £642,759, whilst the capital, reserves, and undivided profits are stated at £690,G74, after providing for the dividend recommended by the directors.
FEJLDING SHOW. Feilding, Last Night. There was a record attendance for tho second day of the Fcilding show. The competition results were as follows: Best lady driver, Miss Tngles; pony jumping, Hunt's Dandy; I'idles' hunter competition, Westland's Fill, ridden by Miss Briggs; open hunter competition, Cameron's Mac; leaping and jumping competition, Sergeant Youuger's 'team of Fcilding Mounted Rifles.
AN EXTRAORDINARY CASE. Last Night. ''This is the most extraordinary case 1 ever saw in my life, and undoubtedly the worst," said Dr. McArthur, S.MI, this morning, after enquiring into case in which a man named ,T. Phillips was charged at the Magistrate's Court with keeping offensive rubbish on his premises in Garrett street. The house, it was stated, was found to be full of! all kinds of rubbish. The yard was also found to he in an unpleasant con- • dition. His Worship considered the place a menace to public health, and a tit ease for the Health Department to take up. A polo match was played here to-dav between the Wanganui and Manawatii Clubs, resulting in a somewhat easy win for the home team by 8 goals to 2.'
