THE SEDDON MONUMENT.

TEXDER6 TO BE CALLED IMMEDIATELY. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Xight. The Government intends calling lor tenders immediately for the monument to be erected over the grave of the late MW Seddon on Observatory Hill, over-, looking Boulton street cemetery, according to the design prepared by Mr. Campbell, Government architect. Tic monument is to consist of a column and pedestal standing on a base of three steps, the bottom step being 23ft square and the top one 14ft square. The pedestal is to have a height of 16ft from the ground, and the column is to be 33ft in height above the pedestal. The shaft of the column is square, and measures 4ft 6hi on each side, tapering to 3ft Win. The necking has a moulded and foliated capital, and is surmounted bva symbolic statue 10ft it. height. The total height of the monument is 59ft from the ground. The pedestal has four square buttresses on the angles with curved trusses at the top, each surmounted by a lion recumbent. The monument will be constructed with a core of ferro-concrctc. and faced with New Zealand marhlc or granite. The pedestal has panels which will ndmit of stiit.ihlc inscriptions nnd over which there are carved festnnns. one having in plain letters the word '-Pcddon."
