Subsequent attempts at resuscitation were continued for uu hour and a-haif, but were resultless. The jury returned a verdict in accord ance with the medical testimony, adding that they were satisfied that "all precautions had been taken.
A CROWDED SCHOOL. ; Gisborne, Saturday Night. Hon, R.MeXab, Minister for Lands, and Hon. James Carroll, Native Minis-l ter, visited Ihe .Mangapapa school, where ninety-nine children are taught daily in a room 23ft by 20ft. Hon. McNabi said Hon. CI. Fowlds, Minister for Edu-' cation, would inspect the school early' next month.
SMALL GRAZING RUNS. Gisborne, Saturday Night., ' Hon. Mr McNab, Minister for Lands, on Saturday morning received a deputation regarding small grazing runs. It was stated that runs in Poverty Bay had been taken up in a very rough state and could not return profit for at least' ten years, athough the runs had been taken up on an understanding tint they would not be occupied by the (!ovcimment till wanted for some puhlio purpose, and the lessees had paid a bis l goodwill.
The Minister said that "when tihe> leases fell in, the Land Board would report ou tliem, and if not possible to' settle land any closer the lease.? would be renewed. It was the intention of the frairier of the Act that small grazing runs should only be temporarily occupied. There was no doubt that smatt grazing runs in different localities needed different treatment, and grass land should bo treated differently to bush laud. It was probable that the frarner of the Act thought more of the land in l Ins own district, and did not think small grazing runs would be taken up so much in the North Island. MUSICAL SOCIETIES. Dunedin, Last Night. Nine delegates from the Dunedin Society of Musicians will attend the Con. ference to be opened at Wellington on Wednesday to discuss the proposals for the incorporaiton of the musical sot eieties of New Zealand. ■ FIRE AT DUNEDIN. Dunedin, Last Night. A fire occurred at North East Valley' early this morning, by which three wooden 'liouaes, each containing six rooms, were destroyed,- together with the contents. Mr Geo. Woods' house was insured for £4OO, and the effects in the National for .£150; Mrs Drummonds' house for £4O in the South British, and effects for £2OO in tlie same onice; Mr Alexander Dow's insurance.* are unknown.
