CRICKET.
' ENGLAND v. -NORTH TASMANIA. Received Jan. 1!), 1.14 a.m. Hobart, January 19. The English cricket team, playing at Launceston against Northern Tasmania, have lost three wickets for 218 runs— Hutching!! 3/, Hobbs (not out) 00, Hardstall (not out) 61, being the chief scorers.
PROTRACTED TEST MATCHES. London, January 17. The Tribune says: "The public liere is growing weary of the procedure of teet matches which are reduced to trials of endurance. They ought to be limited to four days. Then there would be an incentive to play real cricket and get rid of much ignoble stonewalling."
The following senior cricket fixtures (February 13th) are substituted for those of 23rd inst.:—New Plymouth A v. Urenui, at New Plymouth; New Plymouth B v. Inglewood, at New Plymouth; Carrington-road v. Waitara, at Waitara.
There will be a meeting of local cricketers at the Red House Hotel this evening at 8 o'clock.
