TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SUPPLEMENTARY SHOW. Fine weather favored the Agricultural Society yesterday for its supplementary show on the Racecourse. The programme of events comprised horseleaping in hunting and steeplechase style, high jump, and a pony race. The attendance of the public was not as big as had been expected, and the attend-

ance of country people was very disappointing, the morning train bringing in very few visitors. Harvesting operations were probably responsible for this. The grandstand, however, was well filled during the afternoon. In nearly every

event the competition was good, and tne horseflesh represented the pick of the West Coast. The pony-leaping was

again ail attractive feature. A very popular win was that of Mr. Boullon's Alpine in the big event. The cup presented by Mr. \V. G. Malone for the Taranaki Hunt Club's competition was won by Mr. E. 1.. -Ilili.in, of Inglewnod. and Mr. ,1. Campbell, of. Brunswick, had the champion ponv, winning .Mr. 0. W. Hole's cup. All the officials worked well, and the events were run oil' with commendable alacrity. The secretary, Mr. E. P. Webster, was right up to his work, and all the committeemen and stewards looked well alter their duties. There was only one fsill during the day, Mr. Matthew's sustaining nasty bruises by his horse

'ailing on him in the hunters' style leap-

ing competition. The Garrison Band played capital music at intervals during the afternoon, Riving their services gratuitously. Mr. K. Whittle conducted the licensed booth in his usual very capable manner, ami Mr. ,T. \V. Thomson conducted the refreshment and afternoon tea booths in his usual style. There were numerous sideshows, but these were not rushed with business. The following are the results:— Maiden Leaping Competition, open to all horses that have not won a jumping or steeplechase competition at an agricultural show; each horse to carry not less than list.
