HEAT WAVE. Sydney, January 16. A heat wave has been experienced in New South Wales and Victoria. Temperatures from 102 to 117 degrees have been recorded. The wave affects the Whole of New South Wales. At Menidie a temperature of 114 in the shade has been registered; at Wentworth 113; at Deniliquin 111; and in many places wfll over 100. Melbourne, January 16. The weather is again roasting. In the city the temperature is 102; at Swanhill 117; at Wyeherprooy 115. NEWCASTLE COAL TRADE. Sydney, January 10. The amount of coal "exported from Newcastle last year was 4,546,000 tons, of a value of £2,017,000. The value was £453,000 and the tonnage 670,595 above those of the previous year. The exports to New Zealand were 338,720 tons, an increase of about 500 tons. PLAGUE OF GRASSHOPPERS. Sydney, January 18. Grasshoppers are destroying everything that is green in the Singleton district. FIRES. Sydney, January 16. A lire at Ganymede destroyed six business premises. Adelaide, January 16. Berry and Co.'s packing establishment was destroyed by fire. Several valuable horses perished.
