OLD SOLDIERS' GRAVES.

NEGLECTED AND OVERGROWN. The Town Clerk nas received the following communication from Mr. W. H. Skinner, for the Commissioner of Crown Lands:—

"My attention has been drawn to the somewhat neglected state of many of the soldiers' graves at Te Henui. A grant was made by the Government somo few years ago to have the whole of the graves, headstones, etc., thoroughly overhauled and renovated, and it was generally understood that the Council ■would carefully keep and tend for the future these plots. Unfortunately this has not been the case. A small sum of £5 has recently been authorised to be spent on the renovation of these particular graves, and I should be glad to confer with the chairman of the Cemetery Committee or any other authorised member of the Council ag to the best way of expending this money. At the same time I think your Council should subsidise the Government grant by an equal sum, so that a proper job could be made and all these plots at Te Henui put in thorough order."
