THIS AFTERNOON'S ATTRACTIONS
HORSE-LEAPING COMPETITIONS. There promises to be a very large attendance this afternoon at the racecourse to witness the horse-leaping competitions arranged by the Taranakl Agricultural Society as a supplementary show to make up in some measure for the loss sustained at the recent how, owing to the heavy rain on "People's Day." Since then many of the exhibitors in all sections of the show have displayed a most generous spirit in declining to uplift their winnings, recognising that the Society was on this occasion thoroughly deserving o( better luck, and that the progressive movement could only be backed up by funds. And now the Society has arranged to give over again the spectacular portion of the show, and the North Inland's best horses are arriving in town to compete in the various leaping competitions this afternoon on the Ihe townspeople and rural settlors are alike interested in the success of the Society, and mostly everyone can en-
joy the sight of well-bred, well-groomed and well-trained horseflesh. The sport should be exciting and keen, for the course is in excellent order. In addition to the jumping there are a threepart event, pony r.icing, and tilting at the ring. Numerous side shows for the amusement of the children will lie on the ground. Afternoon tea arrangements are in the hands of Mr J. W. Thompson, and Mr E. Whittle has the licensed booth. The first event starts at one o'clock. The tradespeople arc closing their premises at noon.
