THE WELLINGTON TRAGEDY.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TIUAL. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Nig'it. James Mnlacliy Sheridan was ciarg.'d on remand at the Police Court this morning, before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., with the murder of John William McNally at Wellington on 3rd January. Mr Myers prosecuted on behalf of the police, and accused was defended by Mr Gray. After evidence had been taken bearing out the circumstances telegraphed at the time of the occurrence, Mr Gray submitted that this was not a case for committal. There was 110 probability or possibility, on the evidence, of accused being convicted by a jury of the offence with which he was charged or i( ny other offence. Mr Myers said the question the cou *t had to determine was whether a prima facie case had been made out. It be that when the case came be fore a higher court the indictment woul< be laid in a different form. Accused was committed for trial Bai waß allowed as formerly.
