The first case under the new gambling laws was heard at Martinborough today, when the proprietor of the GreyStandard whs charged with printing and publishing dividends in the second day's book of the Lower Valley Jockey Club. He pleaded not guilty. After evidence had been taken, the defendant was fined 20s and coats £1 18s 8d on the charge ot printing, the second information, in regard to publishing, being dismissed. COMMTTiir7oR TRIAL. Christchurch, Tueadfl/. Edgar Neate was to-day committed for trial on a charge of keeping a toteshop in High-street, during the November carnival. Neate elected to be tried by a jury. Bail was allowed.
